Take Back Our Health

Take Back Our Health WV is a collaborative effort between the WV Bureau of Public Health and several other organizations around the state to address obesity prevention. The initiative aims to improve the health of West Virginians four ways: by increasing physical activity in communities, increasing workplace wellness, promoting access to healthy foods, and reducing tobacco use.

The Center for ActiveWV, at West Virginia University’s College of Physical Activity and Sport Sciences, is administering the community physical activity grant program through the Take Back Our Health WV initiative, which aims to increase physical activity in communities around the state.

About the Project

Take Back Our Health is a community-based project that aims to improve the health of West Virginians by supporting projects that increase access to physical activity. The project will focus on improving the health of communities through increasing opportunities for physical activity for children throughout the school day and beyond, increasing or improving pedestrian and bike infrastructure, and creating opportunities for physical activity referrals in healthcare settings.

Take Back Our Health is a partnership between West Virginia College of Physical Activity and Sport Sciences, and West Virginia Division of Health Promotion and Chronic Disease, Bureau of Public Health. The project partners recognize that there are communities and organizations all over the state who are making strides to improve the health of West Virginia. With this unique opportunity, the collaboration will engage and support communities who are working to increase access to physical activity throughout the state.
