Celebrate National Public Lands Day with Outdoor Adventures Across West Virginia

On Saturday, September 27, 2025, West Virginians are invited to celebrate National Public Lands Day by joining outdoor adventures at state parks across the Mountain State. West Virginia’s public lands—ranging from rugged mountain trails to serene rivers and forests—offer residents and visitors alike a chance to explore the state’s rich natural heritage while supporting outdoor recreation, conservation, and community well-being. Activities include scenic hikes, naturalist-led tours, paddling excursions, and hands-on conservation projects. These events offer fun and meaningful ways to enjoy the outdoors while connecting with nature and community.

These activities are also part of statewide efforts to promote physical activity and wellness through use of West Virginia’s abundant natural resources. They are supported by the West Virginia Physical Activity Plan, housed at the WVU Center for Active WV, which works to make movement a part of everyday life for all West Virginians. By partnering with the West Virginia State Park SystemWest Virginia Rivers CoalitionWest Virginia Trail Association, and West Virginians for Public Lands, the Center is helping to promote inclusive opportunities for people of all ages and abilities to get active in the great outdoors.

National Public Lands Day is the largest single-day volunteer event for public lands in the United States, making it a great time to give back while enjoying the outdoors. Whether you’re looking to explore a new trail, learn about local wildlife, paddle a peaceful lake, or help preserve public lands, National Public Lands Day is the perfect opportunity to get outside and celebrate the natural beauty of West Virginia.
