The Main Goal
Create a space where students can experience the beauty of nature, engage in the process of ethical food production, and become tied to a healthy lifestyle.

The Purpose
The garden has grown fresh fruits, vegetables, and herbs for the school and has made a space for teachers to host class outside everyday. With this space, teachers have incorporated movement activities, like 5 minute workouts, during classes

Created physical and observable change by adding a large garden to the school environment.

Building Capacity: Stronger Communities

The new garden has provided an authentic learning opportunity for students they've enthusiastically engaged in. The garden and outdoor classes have led to students looking forward to the movement opportunity that being outside presents.

The Bottom Line

With this project, Martinsburg High School was able to provide healthy fresh food, an authentic, healthy, and outside learning experience, and increased opportunities for physical movement for their students. The students have met these opportunities with enthusiastic engagement, resulting in a student body with an increased connection to a healthy lifestyle.
