Project Outcomes

Health For All

March Mathness is fun for families, students, and staff. Oakvale has created parent involvement sessions around this activity, which has added support for their students. This is a school-wide activity, classes PK-5 are all included in the fun!

System Changes

The addition of physical activities (an obstacle course and a relay) has made math more fun. Students look forward to the event every year.

The Bottom Line

Mechanics of March Mathness

Each primary class teams up with an intermediate class. Students cheer for their partners and paired classes when the relays begin. Students complete some type of physical challenge down the court, answer a math problem and race back. The number of correct math problems is how many baskets each class gets to shoot. Students win basketballs for winning the game, the math challenge, best cheering squad, and a math problem of the week. At the end of the month, the overall winner is the class who obtained the most basketballs.
