In becoming a West Virginia Healthy School in Action (WVHSIA) you are supercharging student wellness by providing your school wellness team professional development to complete the School Health Index (SHI) and then creating data-driven health plans for your school. Plus, with ongoing support from the Center for ActiveWV’s WVHSIA team, your school will excel in promoting student wellness! To recognize your success, you will receive a banner to display and statewide recognition, celebrating your commitment to creating healthier, happier school environments.

Here are the steps to becoming a West Virginia Healthy School in Action:
- Designate a school Wellness Team with a motivated leader
- Complete a virtual learning module about the CDC’s School Health Index (SHI)
- Complete the virtual School Health Index (SHI assessment for your school)
- From the results of the SHI, develop a School Health Action Plan to share with your school and community
- Celebrate and share your successes to inspire others to join the movement for healthier schools!
