Through the West Virginia Healthy Schools in Action initiative, all 24 Mercer County schools have transformed their approach to student and staff wellness—updating physical education equipment, creating innovative activity programs, launching run clubs, and even developing dedicated wellness spaces for teachers. Guided by the CDC’s Whole School, Whole Community, Whole Child model, these schools are setting a statewide example for improving health, engagement, and community connection.
Mercer County Schools are currently planning and organizing their Healthy Schools in Action projects. As a part of the initiative, a number of schools have also started run clubs to help keep students moving throughout the year.
