On May 29, 2024, the WVU College of Applied Human Sciences and Center for ActiveWV hosted the “2024 WV Physical Activity Symposium” at Stonewall Resort, Roanoke, West Virginia. The event focused on fostering collaboration and featured the unveiling of the updated ActiveWV 2030 plan, a roadmap to boost physical activity and promote healthier lifestyles in the state.

Purpose of Symposium:

  • Unify physical activity efforts with the common goal to improve West Virginians’ health
  • Facilitate the networking of like-minded individuals and organizations who are striving to impact physical activity through collaborative efforts
  • Garner partners and collaborators from a variety of businesses, organizations, and other stakeholders who can help implement the WVPAP through collective action

The Symposium was attended by close to 100 leaders and advocates from 45 organizations representing 21 counties throughout WV and all 10 societal sectors in the Plan.

Utilizing Sector-Specific Metrics: The symposium recommended considering existing sector-specific metrics, such as Military behavioral profiles, insurance costs, recreation program participant numbers, the Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System (BRFSS), and the Rural Active Living Assessment Tool, to measure the plan’s effectiveness.
