A Healthy Schools in Action Success Story

Healthy Schools in Action: Enhancing Physical Education Across Mercer County

Several Mercer County schools — including Bluefield Intermediate, Bluefield High, Bluefield Middle, Bluewell Elementary, Mercer County Early Learning Center, Lashmeet/Matoaka Elementary, Mountain Valley, PikeView Middle, Spanishburg Elementary, and Sun Valley — are taking physical education to the next level.

Through curricular updates and new equipment, schools are finding creative ways to get students moving and engaged. These improvements make PE more interactive and fun, keeping students excited to participate and teachers motivated to keep innovating.

With over 800 students and 540 staff involved, Mercer County’s focus on enhancing physical education is helping build stronger, healthier school communities.
