
Education Sector Highlight: Run Club + Wellness Equipment | Melrose Elementary
Acquired a new massage chair for staff room, 6 picnic + full size tables for outdoor activities, a new Gaga Pit, and supported Run Club by covering cost of coaches.
Several Mercer County schools — including Bluefield Intermediate, Bluefield High, Bluefield Middle, Bluewell Elementary, Mercer County Early Learning Center, Lashmeet/Matoaka Elementary, Mountain Valley, PikeView Middle, Spanishburg Elementary, and Sun Valley — are taking physical education to the next level.
Through curricular updates and new equipment, schools are finding creative ways to get students moving and engaged. These improvements make PE more interactive and fun, keeping students excited to participate and teachers motivated to keep innovating.
With over 800 students and 540 staff involved, Mercer County’s focus on enhancing physical education is helping build stronger, healthier school communities.

Taught emotional regulation skills to students and created a calming room for them to practice. They’ve also invested in new recess equipment for students and yoga for staff.

Montcalm has used equipment funded through WV Healthy Schools for Run Club, PE, and wellness. Equipment has also facilitated after school functions.
